We humans are blessed with a highly developed brain which decodes the stimuli from five sense organs and draws an inference about the object beheld. God has blessed us with eyes to enjoy the beauty and variety offered by the world he has created around us.

In these days the usage of computers is becoming more. Constant work on computers causes the eye to work hard for keeping the images in focus. Due to their more usage, good number of people are in the hunt for medical attention for eye strain and irritation, pain in back, neck, shoulder etc... So far there is no scientific evidence that computer screens are harmful to the eyes. Nevertheless, some persons who work on computers often experience many ocular symptoms.

Shalakya tantra (branch that deals with the diseases of Eye, ENT and Head) provides the science of sight and also explores the disorders of the organ. It has been described exclusively in Drishti rogas (diseases affecting the vision) and one among them is ?TIMIRA? (MYOPIA) that may progresses to the visual loss. MYOPIA starts with the disturbances for the vision which may ultimately destroy the eyesight completely.

Ayurveda has suggested the eye care by specific therapies. Those are called as kriya kalpas. In dry eye syndrome and its related aliments vata dosha is considered as prime factor. Therefore dryness is attained to the eye. Treatment must be strictly aimed to arrest the vitiated vata dosha in/on the eye. It is found and established that in excessive dryness of eye tarpana is the most reliable treatment. Leading and frontline ghrita compound generally used in tarpana is Triphala ghrita.
