Abstract: Tinospora cordifolia is a widely used rejuvenating shrub in Ayurvedic system of medicine. This article highlights the morphology, cultivation method, phytochemicals present and medicinal uses of Tinospora. The medicinal properties reported are anti periodic, anti arthritic, anti inflammatory, immunomodulator activities. The traditional uses of the herb have also been brought out in this article. Sandhivata (Osteoarthritis) is a type of arthritis common in men over 40 years. It is asymmetrical affection of one or more joints. Morning stiffness especially after rest and at the onset of movements may be present. It is relieved by movements since the increased synovial secretion caused by movements lubricates the dry joint and relieves the pain. Herberden’s nodes may be present. In X-ray examination diminished joint space with osteophytes may be seen.
